We own and operate a small themed suite motel and cabin rental business in Southern Iowa called Country Cabins Motel and we are currently building a few new cabins. This one will be a Military themed cabin and we will give at least one free night per week to a military family along with a nice appreciation basket for things to do and see while they are in town. If you are within an hour of Chariton Iowa and own a business and would like to donate something for our basket such as a meal, movie tickets, or other items we would appreciate it. If anyone would like to make personal donations such as hand made items, personal items, stationary, gift cards, ect… please let us know. We want these individuals to feel so welcome into our State and Community and we want them to have a worry free time to just sit back and relax. Our idea is to pay it forward for the extreme sacrifices these individuals have made for us in their service to our Country. We have some military memorabilia but looking for ideas and items that people might want to sell or contribute to our project. Each branch of the military needs to be recognized and we will be taking names and suggestions for someone you think can use some time away in a rustic cabin.
The cabin is nearly done so it will be open soon. Any ideas are appreciated. We hear so many stories and just want to give back to our heroes in uniform. This cabin is totally handicapped accessible for the disabled as well. The view off the cabin porch is of acres of public access timber with trails down to an 80 acre lake and also trails to Red Haw State Park that lies right across the highway. Plans are underway for a new pond directly in front of the cabin and it is scheduled to be built this Summer and will be fully stocked for fishing right off the deck.
There is also shopping and entertainment right next door at the Frontier Trading Post and Soda Pop Saloon. They have one of the absolute nicest gift shops around and live music and dancing every Saturday night during the season which is April – October. It is good clean non-alcoholic family fun and they also serve great food on Saturday nights. They also have a bait and tackle store, mini and soccer golf and an antique barn.
We sincerely hope that others can find it in their hearts to find this project worthy enough to at least stop and give thanks to a military member past or present. A kind word of thanks, a handshake or selfless gesture of some kind when you meet them on our streets can make so much difference and takes so little effort. God bless our Military, one and all!
